David started his career at DuPont, after earning his engineering degree from Clemson University. He served in various capacities for 6 years, including process engineer, corporate engineering recruiter, and marketing and sales. He left DuPont in 1991 to pursue his MBA at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he was awarded a fellowship from the Consortium for Graduate Studies in Management. During his MBA studies, David worked for Conoco Ltd. in London, serving as part of a team responsible for the privatization of oil & gas retail and distribution facilities in Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic. He also spent his 2nd year of MBA studies on exchange at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium.
After completing his MBA, Mendez joined GE Plastics in San Francisco, managing sales and marketing for engineering thermoplastics into the consumer electronics, automotive and medical device industries on the west coast. After growing his territory from $6M to over $26M, David was awarded MVP of Sales for the Western Region. He then served as regional quality manager, and was involved in the early stages of GE's adoption of Six Sigma Quality initiatives.
Using his experience in supply chain management from GE, David co-founded Supplybase.inc, a supply chain software company. After 2 rounds of VC funding (NEA, lead investor), Supplybase was sold to i2 Technologies in 2000. After the acquisition, David joined Katalyst Venture Partners as Managing Director for the New York City office. Katalyst invested in and advised startups in the B2B software and digital media sectors. After a few years in the New York City office, David moved to London to assist with Katalyst’s European portfolio.
David left Katalyst in 2003 to form DPM Resources and has been investing and advising through DPM prior to forming Capital A Partners. At DPM, David invested in and consulted with a variety of companies in the technology, infrastructure/cleantech, industrial, digital media, film & television, consumer products and services, and B2B services. After 11 years in NYC, David relocated to Charleston, SC with his wife and 2 children, where he co-founded Capital A Partners in 2013.
David is involved in the community and in academia. In academia, he serves on the dean's advisory board of Clemson University’s School of Business and Behavioral Sciences, and as Chairman of Clemson's Spiro Institute of Entrepreneurship. He also guest lectured at NYU's Stern Business School, and continues to guest lecture at Clemson University, The Citadel and the College of Charleston. David's community involvement includes participation in entrepreneurial programs, including DIG SOUTH, where he served as panelist and judge for the Wild Pitch, and the Harbor Entrepreneurship Center, where he served on the initial formation advisory board. He also was chosen as a judge in the 2014 Charlotte Venture Challenge and the Charleston Startup Weekend in September 2014. In 2015, he also judged Duke University's Business Plan competition. Since 2015, he has judged The Citadel's Bulldog Business Plan competition. David also was a featured guest at Charleston's first Startup Grind. Lastly, since 2014, David has served as a panelist at Charleston's "What's The Big Idea" event.
Tanya’s extensive financial services experience has spanned asset management and middle market mergers and acquisitions on both the buy-side and the sell-side. Throughout her career, she has specialized in identifying and executing investment and M&A opportunities for all kinds of clients, including high net worth individuals, family offices, private equity groups, and other institutional and corporate investors.
While spending the majority of her career in North American business, with over 18 years providing superb financial services expertise, with 12 years dedicated to the unique needs of the middle market, she also has a strong background in global transactions, having worked on over 30 cross-border transactions in South America, Western and Eastern Europe, Japan, South Korea, and India. She has transacted deals with an aggregate value of over $1.5 billion in enterprise value, both domestically and cross-border, including M&A, growth equity, and debt capitalization assignments. Now in Stockholm, she is leading Capital A's efforts throughout Europe.
Prior to joining Capital A Partners, Tanya was a Managing Director in Allegiance Capital Corporation’s New York Office, an M&A advisory firm representing privately held companies with transaction values between $30 million and $250 million. While at Allegiance she served as co-practice leader for the Consumer and TMT (Technology, Media & Telecom) Practices. Her industry experience includes consumer products, technology, franchises, media and entertainment, agribusiness, manufacturing and distribution, and O&G/energy services.
Tanya also spent time at Merrill Lynch, where she established a corporate and individual asset management advisory business within Merrill Lynch’s Global Private Client Group, advising family offices, executives, high net worth individuals, private equity groups, and business owners on financing, investment, and M&A opportunities. Tanya began her career in the entertainment industry, providing financial services to famous musicians, entertainers, and professional athletes.
Tanya was a full tennis scholarship recipient from Georgia State University and graduated with a B.A. in Marketing and Minor in Mathematics. Tanya is a FINRA Registered Representative with Series 79 & 63. She is also a recognized member of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (Grammy Awards); ACG NY Board of Directors (2012-2015); ACG NY WOL (Women of Leadership Committee); Women's Executive Committee Member of the UJA Federation of NY; Chairperson for the ACG NY Digital Media and Technology Conference (2011-2013); Judging Committee Member for the M&A Awards NY Champion’s Awards Gala (2011-2012); M&A Advisor International Award (2011-2013); the 2012 M&A Advisor 40 under 40; 2012 ACG NY Delegation Member to ACG Euro Tour & 2013 EuroGrowth.
Tanya was most recently elected to the position of Vice President of International Relations for ACG NY. She continues to be involved in industry events and conferences, and was recently chosen to speak at the Global Symposium for Women's Leadership in Stockholm.
Andreas is a rising senior studying International Business and Finance at Mälardalens University. He was born and raised in Colorado and attended Quest University in Canada on a soccer scholarship, and relocated to Sweden to attend Mälardalens and to work at Sportson, a bicycle franchise. He is founding member and director of finance for the student travel organization MEC. Andreas speaks Swedish, English and Spanish fluently. He will be working on strategic research projects out of CAP A’s offices in Stockholm.
Anette is currently a partner at Stockholms Affärsänglar, a partnership and syndication of Business Angels. Having worked globally in the USA and Scandinavia, Anette brings to CAP A a plethora of entrepreneurial skills and leadership. Anette is currently stationed in Silicon Valley under a Vinnova fellowship.
